In this section we are going to talk about the traditions of one of the most famous rich and beautiful city of Tuscany: Florence
In Florence there a lot of folkloristic traditions, such as one of the most well-known is the historical play of “Calcio in Costume”. This antique play is practised by young men, because thanks this play men developed the muscles of the arms and the legs in a fighting. Another folkloristic tradition, which is still now well-known among the most famous squares of the city, is the “Scoppio del Carro”. It has been taking every year on the Easter Saturday. Another important party is called the “Ficolona”. It is so called because it represents an antique song singed by the Florentine children while they walk around the principal ways of the city. It begins at the 1th week of September . along the main streets tourist can see lanterns made of colour papers, which are called “Rificoloni”.
This day long time ago was the most important day of the year of the agricultural market, because farmers during this day had the possibility to earn a lot of money. The farmers got up very early, before the dawn and they left their house holding lanterns.

The history of Florence begins in 59 A.D. with the foundation of a small village made of Roman soldier. This small village is called “Florentia”. The village after a short period are dominated by other progenies, such as: the French domain, the Longobardo domain, the Ostrogoto domain and the Bizantino domain.

The first period under the domination of the Medici ended with the return of a Republic Government, which has been influenced by the teachings of the radical Girolamo Savonarola.
Another fundamental point of the history of Florence is the famous day of the big flood: the 4th November 1966.
This big flood damaged the major part of the works of art realized centuries ago by the most famous Italian artist.
But Florence is still now one of the most beautiful and noteworthy city in the world.

The city of Florence is crossed by the principal river: The Arno River. It divides in two parts the city: the first part is called Valdarano Inferiore and the second part is called Valdarano Superiore.
